What Thespace Panic is
Thespace Panic is a free retro arcade digging game for Android. You play on a vertical stage of platforms joined by ladders: you dig holes in the floor, trap the invaders patrolling each level and bury them by filling the hole back in — all against a clock, because your oxygen never stops draining.
It is an original Theia Island title that revives the mechanic of the early-1980s coin-op classics: the dig-and-bury genre launched by Space Panic (Universal, 1980), recognised as the first platform video game ever made, back when jumping had not been invented yet. On that foundation it adds oxygen as a resource, invaders of different toughness, a star economy and an online world ranking.
If you are looking for retro games for Android, a classic 80s arcade or a game like Space Panic, this is that kind of game: pixel art, rising difficulty and short high-score runs.
Controls and rules
Press DIG three times to open a hole to your left or right, depending on the way you are facing.
FILL pushes the trapped invader down. Line holes up vertically to make it fall several floors in one go.
Stepping into an open hole drops you one floor. Falling through two levels in a row costs a life.
The oxygen meter, your lives and the level are always on the top bar. Leftover oxygen turns into bonus points when you clear a floor.
The red, green and blue invaders need one, two or three floors of falling. If one escapes a hole, it comes back more dangerous.
Rounds and progress
You start with three lives. Each round adds threats and gradually cuts the oxygen available, down to a minimum.
The first extra life is awarded when you pass 3,000 points.
Clear a round and whatever oxygen is left turns into bonus points.
Register a unique pilot name, activate the account by email, and your best expeditions appear on the global leaderboard.
Invaders of the rift
The starting invader: a single fall is enough.
Needs two perfectly aligned holes in the same fall.
Faster and tougher: it demands a chain of three floors.
If a trapped invader escapes, it becomes more dangerous. Fill the hole before that happens.
Stars
Every expedition costs 5 ★. From 2,000 points you are awarded 5 ★, and the prize repeats every 500 points. You can also complete a full-screen rewarded ad in the app to receive 5 ★.
The reward is credited only when Google confirms the ad was watched in full. If no ad inventory is available, the app may show its own 6-second promo, which also grants 5 ★ on completion.
