About Theia Island

Updated 5 September 2026 · Versión en español

Theia Island is the name under which Juan Manuel Miras Martínez develops and publishes software and video games from La Xara, Alicante (Spain). Thespace Panic is its retro arcade game for Android.

Who is behind it

Theia Island is an independent, one-person project. There is no publisher, no investors and no twenty-strong team: design, programming, art and release all come from the same place. That shapes the kind of game that comes out of here — compact arcades with closed rules and short runs, rather than long productions.

Why a digging arcade

Thespace Panic comes from one specific idea: reviving a mechanic the industry abandoned almost as soon as it invented it. Space Panic (Universal, 1980) created the platform-and-ladder stage, but a year later Donkey Kong arrived with the jump and the whole genre followed it. The original branch — dig, trap, bury, no jumping — was left as a historical curiosity.

As it turns out, that mechanic fits a phone exceptionally well: four directions and two buttons, with no pixel-perfect jumps that a finger on glass executes badly. Thespace Panic is a new game, with its own art and code, built on that observation. The full context is in what retro digging games are.

How it is distributed

The game is published as a direct APK download from this site, free, for Android 8 or later. The download always runs over HTTPS and the file is signed as a release. It is not distributed through third parties: if you find the APK somewhere else, we cannot guarantee it has not been modified.

The game includes Google AdMob advertising and an internal star economy, both described in detail in the terms of use.
